Back To School Blog Hop

Hey Y'all!

I am so excited to participate in another Crafty Blog Hop with several other demonstrators.  Our theme this time is "Back To School."  Back to school looks very different in my part of the world this time around.  Our school system had decided to go face to face, then the Friday before starting on Monday, it was announced at the last minute that everyone would start virtual.  I teach a Bible Study class at my church, and have several teachers in it. All of my children are grown and out of school, so I decided to make some cards for the teachers in my class.

I have fallen in love with this fold, I call it a "Modified Easel."  I've seen them all over Pinterest, but I'm going to give credit to Ronda Wade, it was her video in her Creating for Christ group that made me want to make one.  And I have made a bunch!  I love the idea of someone putting this on a desk, on their bedside table, or anywhere they can look over and be reminded they are thought of.  I used the  "You Got This" sentiment from Ridiculously Awesome, which I thought was perfect to give them some encouragement.

This is what they look like folded flat.  I chose a coordinating cardstock color for the middle, but I used embossing folders to add texture.

One of my class members is a baseball coach.  Our school colors are purple and gold, so I used those colors for his card.

To make the baseball, I used the 1-1/2" Circle Punch and drew the lines with my Real Red Stampin' Write marker.

The DSP (Designer Series Paper) is the Plaid Tidings from the 2020 Holiday Mini Catalog.

The apple was made with the Apple Builder Punch and Harvest Hellos stamp set.
Tip: use 1/4" or 1/2" scraps of cardstock for elements like the leaf and stem.

I used my Stampin' Write Markers to add ink to the sentiment from By The Dock.  The stamp says, "thank you for making a difference in my life," so using my marker I was able to only add ink to the portion of the stamp I wanted. The Stampin' Write markers are a staple in my craft room. I love to use them to partially ink up stamps, add different colors , and other techniques.

Card Measurements and Instructions:
  • Card Base- 8-1/2 x 5-1/2, scored at 4-1/4.
  • DSP measurements- 4-1/8 x 1-5/8, 2 x 1-7/8
  • ON ONE SIDE ONLY, cut up to the score line at 1-3/4 on both sides.  This will give you 3 "flaps."
  • Score the middle flap at 2-1/8
  • Glue down the 2 side flaps so only the middle opens up.
  • Adhere DSP and sentiments to the card front.
  • Use dimensionals to adhere the stop element (the apple and baseball were mine) to the inside of the card.
