Path of Petals Vintage Card With Removable Bookmark

Hey Y’all!
I’ve got a beautiful vintage/shabby chic card to share with you today using one of my favorite Stampin’ Up! Suites in the new catalog-Pressed Petals. You can see other cards I made with this suite here.  The DSP is gorgeous, and I used the Petal washi tape and the Rococo Rose gathered ribbon to make a removable bookmark.
I stamped the Very Vanilla panel with the flower and leaf images (I highly recommend the Stamparatus to line them up) then ran it through the Scrioty 3D embossing folder.

I tore the edges of the cardstock and DSP. I also stamped on the Crumb Cake base to add texture.  I used one of the framelits in the set  to frame the sentiment, which I cut out with the Stitched Rectangle Dies. I did some partial die cutting to get the sentiment strip shorter.
The bookmark is made with a regular paper clip. I punched a 3/4 inch circle and used 5 of the washi tape petals and attached them in a circle. I added a die cut from the Magnolia Memory dies. I colored a clear faceted gem with the Dark Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Blend. I punched a 1 inch circle to go behind the flower and sandwich the paper clip.  I attached it all with hot glue.
Tips and Tricks
  • Tear cardstock and sponge edges with Soft Suede ink to add to vintage look
  • The Pressed Petals washi tape has 100 individual petals, so you can make 20 5 Petal flowers. Add more petals for fuller flowers.
  • The entire washi tape petal is sticky. Adhere the bottom petal to the cardstock (or whatever you are sticking it to) then rub your embossing buddy over the exposed part to remove the stickiness and allow it to curl and have more dimension.

Vintage Balloons for Global Design Project #195 Theme Challenge

Hey Y’all!
So I’ve been told that my stamping and card making style leans towards “vintage”...well, maybe not lean, more like I totally fell over into the vintage bucket and swim around in it pretty often!
When the Global Design Project team announced their balloon theme challenge, I knew the card I wanted to share.
We made this card in one of my card classes, and I love the vintage look of this color combo.  Pretty Peacock and Terracotta Tile are two of our new in-colors. I also used the In-Color DSP collection (there is a gingham print, be still my heart!) and my favorite background stamp, the Buffalo Check.

Layers of DSP and a Stitched Nested Labels diecut add interest, and the In-color ribbon completes the vintage look. I cut a strip in 1/2, not only does that take away the bulk and make it easier to tie, it also makes your ribbon go farther!
Do y’all believe I almost didn’t order the Above the Clouds Bundle? I’m so glad I did! By the way, did you know you can use the balloon punch to make flower petals...watch for that in a future post! Make sure you hit the subscribe button so you don’t miss any inspiration.  If you would like to order any of the products used, click in the links below to go to my online store. Be sure to use the current host code, and I now have a rewards program, for every $25 spent, you get a punch on a card, 10 punches and you receive $25 in product.  ****For purchases to qualify, you must use the current host code when ordering.
Thanks for stopping by today! What is your stamping style? Leave me a comment below and let me know!

One Sketch-Two Cards (And A Bonus Card) Let’s Get Hopping Round 21

Hey Y’all!
It’s great to be back for another round of Lets Get Hopping! You may have arrived here from Linda Handford's blog, or this may be your starting point.  You want to be sure to hop all the way through to see all of the projects in store for you...I know you are going to be inspired with all of the beautiful cards showcased by these talented ladies! Our theme today is “One Sketch-Two Cards.”
A sketch is simply a card design/template that you personalize and make your own.  Some people design their own sketch on a computer, but I went to Pinterest and searched “card sketches.” I wanted one that would showcase our beautiful DSP (Designer Series Paper) because I have a tendency to hoard it. Now ‘fess Up...you know you do too! I found this sketch from an old Global Design Project challenge, and thought it would be perfect.
I also chose it because it is simple (we all need quick cards, right?) and it is a sketch that will work for a portrait or landscape layout.
One of the bundles I wanted to showcase was the Path Of Petals Bundle and the gorgeous DSP that coordinates with it. This is a specialty paper, it is thinner than regular DSP, and you get FOUR sheets of each design!  But even with all that, I know I'm gonna need more!  It's my favorite DSP so far.  Except for the Bird Ballad (which you will see in the next project), the Magnolia Lane, the Come Sail Away, the Noble Peacock....who am I kidding...I can't pick a favorite!  I love them all!

There is also a coordination embossing folder, the Scripty 3D EF, which I used on this card.  You may have heard by now that Stampin' Up! has changed manufacturers for the dies and embossing folders, and currently we don't sell a die cutting machine.  There is something new in the works, though!  Since manufacturers changed, the embossing folders are not the same thickness, and SU! told us we may need to change the sandwich or add shims to run things through the die cutting machine.  I found the best sandwich so far to be the base platform, the gray mat from my embossing mats, the embossing folder, and then a top cutting plate.  They are also selling a shim you can purchase.  I will include it below in the links to the products used today.
There are 3 dies in the bundle to create beautiful frames, a large frame, this smaller frame, and a small oval that I used to add the Night of Navy layer.

I needed a card for a wedding, and the sentiments in this set were perfect!
Remember I said I chose this sketch to show off DSP?  Look at the DSP from the Bird Ballad suite!
The paper really does all the work!  I "fussy cut" the bird and branch image, and that was the hardest part of making this card.  I love how the thin black border just makes the DSP "pop"!

That label comes from the coordinating Stitched Nested Labels Dies, and the "Hello" greeting is from the Free As A Bird stamp set.  That little scalloped edge of Pool Party was made with the Decorative Ribbon Border Punch.  A strip of Scalloped Lace Trim from this suite adds just a hint of elegance.
Now the theme of the hop was "One Sketch-Two Cards", right?  I couldn't resist adding this 3rd card made with the Pressed Petals DSP.  It was actually the first card I designed for the hop, then I decided I wanted something a little fancier.  It features one of the new In Colors, Rococo Rose.
And even though the Wood Textures DSP retired (sigh), Stampin' Up! saw my agony and included more wood design in this DSP!  Yay!!

I added some of the Rococo Rose Scalloped Linen ribbon to the edges of the strip of DSP.  I simply cut it in 1/2 and attached it with snail adhesive.
I hope you have enjoyed my cards today, I can't wait to give them to the friends I created them for.  Leave a Comment telling me what your favorite new suite in the catalog is.  Next up is the amazing Tracy Bish, just click on the Next Blog arrow and see what she has in store!
Tips and Tricks:
  • Card Measurements-All card bases are 8-1/2 x 5-1/2, scored at 4-1/4,  Wildflower Card-WW Thick CS base, Night of Navy layer 4 x 5-1/4, DSP layer 3-7/8 x 5-1/8, NON embossed strip 1-3/4 x 4.  Bird Card- Pool Party base, BB layer 5-5/8 x 4-1/8, DSP layer-5-1/4 x 4, DSP Strip-1-1/2 x 4. Rococo Rose Card-Rococo Rose base, DSP-4 x 5-1/4, DSP strip-1 x 4
  • All of the sentiments were heat embossed with white, I love the way this makes them pop off the card
  • As you can see, I did not make my cards look exacty like the sketch.  I followed the basic elements, but I did not use a circle, nor did I place my ribbon or sentiment exactly like that.  A sketch is just a guideline.  I encourage you to find card making challenges (Global Design Project, CASEing the Catty, Just Add Ink are a few) to open up your creativity. Sometimes we get in a "rut" and do the same thing over and over.  I love to see what others do...it's ok to CASE, but make sure to give credit to the original designer.

One of the things I love about the new catalog is how they have an item number for an entire suite of products, so if you're like me and want it all, it is easy peasy shopping!  I included the suite item numbers in my links below.  If you are interested in purchasing any of the products I used today, I would love to earn your business!  Simply click on the links below to go to my online store.  I have a Frequent Buyer Club card, for every $25 purchase you get a punch.  Get 10 punches and receive $25 of your choice of Stampin' Up! products.  To get a punch, you must use the current host code, which can be found in the right column of my blog.
If you are like me and love a discount, the starter kit is the best value in the catalog!  I would love for you to join my team-SASS-Southern Accents Stampin' Squad.  Becoming a demonstrator is so much fun! Having classes is not necessary, you can be a Hobby demo like many others.  Click on the "Join The Fun" link at the top to join my squad!
If you haven't already, be sure to subscribe to my blog.  See you next time!
Love,
Nina
