Hey Y'all!
I am sharing my card I made for the Global Design Project's Color Challenge this week. How many of us struggle with masculine cards? Well, the struggle is OVER! There are some great sets in the new Stamin' Up! 2019-20 Annual Catalog that will make it so easy to make those masculine cards we all have such a hard time with. And this color challenge was perfect to show you a couple of those.
I have always loved navy blue and yellow together (don't believe me? Come see my kitchen!) and add my favorite color green and I couldn't wait to get stampin'! Now when you first look at these colors, they don't scream "masculine card." But I had been wanting to use the "A Good Man" set, and I decided to pair it with one of my favorite new sets, "Sailing Home." I thought these were the perfect colors.
Father's Day is Sunday here in the US, and y'all know I had to make my man a card. I love the sentiments in this set. This card could be a birthday card as well.
I did a quick watercolor background with Pineapple Punch, then stamped the water in Night of Navy, and the sand in Crumb Cake. The water and sand stamps come from the "High Tide" set, which, by the way, pairs perfectly with Sailing Home. I used my aquapainter to spread the crumb cake out, but I like the texture of the sand stamp. I used Stampin' Blends to color the man and chair. I love the many ways there are to color and use our inks!
For a girl who doesn't really like to fussy cut, I seem to do it alot lately! I love how paper piecing looks, and used the Come Sail Away DSP for the hat. The boat was stamped in Night of Navy, then I used a Blender Pen to blend out some of the ink on the hull. I really like that effect.
I hope my man knows how much I appreciate him and all he does for our family. God really blessed me when He put him in my life. He may give me a hard time about this being a beach-scene card since we really aren't beach people (some of y'all bout fell out your chair didn't you?) We tolerate it, but we much prefer being on the river. So that's what I am going to tell him, and y'all vouch for me, ok? This is a river, not the ocean....it's all in creative interpretation, right? You can imagine it to be any where you want it to be....It was a fun card to make, and I can't wait to give it to him!
Tips and Tricks
- Measurements: Night of Navy card base-8-1/2 x 5-1/2, scored at 4-1/4, Granny Apple Green layer-4 x 5-1/4, Thick WW layer-3-3/4 x 5
- There are so many coloring techniques, I used 3 in this card: watercoloring with aquapainters, blender pens, and Stampin' Blends.
- Paper Piecing is so much fun-I stamped the image onto a piece of DSP, then cut out the hat and attached it with a mini dimensional. For the sails, I simply stamped the boat image in Pineapple Punch and cut out the sails and adhered with liquid glue.
- The words in the "Relax Your Way" sentiment are in a straight line. To get different looks, stamp the words then cut apart and place on your project.
- The Stampin' Blends come in a light and dark combo pack, or you can order each one single. This is great when you only need to replace one of the markers. The Ivory and Bronze are single markers and can be used for skin tones. I used the Ivory Blend on this project.
