Not Your Standard Card-Let's Get Hopping Round 13

Hey Y'all!

I'm excited for another hop with the Let's Get Hopping crew!  You may have arrived from the lovely Teresa Brown's page, or if you are just starting with me, Welcome!  We have a fun challenge this month--"Not Your Standard Card". It's already September, and Christmas will be here before you can say "Ho! Ho! Ho!" I've chosen to make a gift card/money holder, hopefully to get a head start on gifts.

This design was inspired by a video I watched of Ronda Wade, and also a blog post by Amy Koenders and is very simple to make.  It uses the Envelope Punch Board, which I think is one of the best deals in the catalog. You can do so many neat things with it...hmmm...future blog series???
Ok, back to the card
I used a new bundle from the 2018 Holiday Catalog, it went live today!  The Farmhouse Christmas suite is one of my favorites in the new catalog!  I made 2 different cards using the same layout, but different colors of the DSP (Designer Series Paper.)
The card base is 8-1/4" x 7", and you need to score on the 8-1/4" side at 3" and 6".  Use the Envelope Punch Board to make the tab on the inside.
Line up the 7" side with score line closest to the top in the Envelope Punch Board and punch at 3-1/2".  Then use a trimmer to cut away from the edge of the paper to the notch.    Don't worry, I made a video to show you exactly how to do this!  Fold both flaps inward, and use a strong adhesive like Tear and Tape to glue the bottom portion.
I added a strip of DSP to the bottom of the inside of the card, it measures 7" x 7/8".
I used my Stamparatus and Stampin' Write markers to ink up the sentiment.  The Stamparatus gives you fool-proof stamping, and is perfect for this technique since sometimes the markers don't come out as dark as you like-you will see what I mean in the video.
The matching envelope was so easy to make with the star of the show today--the Envelope Punch Board.  You just find the size card you need an envelope for, cut your paper to that size, then place your paper in at the measurement it gives you and punch and score!  You only measure one time, after the first punch and score, you rotate your paper 90 degrees, and line up the score line with the score guide.  This is why I did a video, folks, it's so much easier to show than explain!  Have I made it clear as mud???
Another one of my favorites is the striped burlap ribbon, I added it to the second card.  Watch the video to get some tips for organizing your DSP (I know some of you are laughing so hard right now that the word organizing appeared anywhere in one of my creations) and also a tip about stretching your die cuts.  Here is the video I have been promising:

Now you get to hop on over to Mikaela Titheredge and see what she has in store, I know you will love it!

Sitting Pretty for Global Design Project Color Challenge #153

Hey Y'all!
I'm BAAA-ACK!  It has been a few weeks since I have been able to share some Stampin' Love with you guys.  I've been busy with my in-home classes, and some other things going on in our family's life.  But I have missed being here with my online friends!
The Global Design Project's challenge this week is a Color Challenge.  Check out these colors:
I pulled out my Sitting Pretty stamp set and went to work.  Here is what I came up with.
I did a simple watercolor wash, then stamped the bench in Gray Granite directly over the wash.  I used my Stamparatus, which allowed me to stamp several times to get it darker and fill in any areas that did not stamp well.  I just had to add a sweet little heart to the bench from the die-cuts in the Pretty Park framelit dies that coordinate with the stamps. I also used the Stamparatus to do the two-step stamping for the squirrel.  I used my Light Daffodil Delight Blends to color in the bird. (There is a stamp that will stamp the inside, but it is TINY! and I had more success with my blends!)
Notice the feet on the bird and the sentiment:
This is why you need the Stampin' Write Markers in your life!  As great as the Blends are, you cannot use them to color on your stamp. The sentiment came from the Detailed With Love set, which has some GREAT sentiments! I love how I was able to do the sentiment using all 3 colors, again using the Stamparatus for perfect positioning each time.

The Pretty Label punch provided the perfect accent, I punched out the sentiment, then punched a piece of Flirty Flamingo CS twice and layered them to get that beautiful border.  The Daffodil Delight double-stitched ribbon finished it off.
Tips and Tricks:
  • Card Dimensions-Whisper White Heavy CS 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 scored at 4-1/4
  • Use the brush tip of Stampin' Write Markers to add ink to stamps
  • Use the Stamparatus for perfect positioning, add one color at a time with the markers, then stamp each time
  • The Stamparatus is also great for two-step stamping (stamp sets that have an outline stamp and another stamp to fill in.)  If you want to "stamp off" to achieve a lighter color, like I did stamping the squirrel, use a scrap piece of paper over the paper in the Stamparatus, then stamp again onto the paper for your card.
  • Add borders to your punched pieces by punching 2 different pieces and attaching them under the punched piece so that it borders the top and bottom.
Global Design Project challenges are so much fun!  Thanks for stopping by, and if you want to order any of the products used, just click on the images below to go to my online store.
