I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Who has their Christmas Tree up already? There is a debate about when it should go up...I do like to wait until after Thanksgiving, but it goes up that weekend!
This week, the Global Design Project has a color challenge:
I have a beautiful card to share with you today using this color combination....
Now this card is definitely for the "avid" crafter. At OnStage in Orlando, the Stampin' Up! Convention, they talked about "Beginner," "Casual," and "Avid" crafters. A "Beginner" crafter is just starting out and enjoys making simple cards that don't use alot of tools and techniques that would easily overwhelm them. A "Casual" crafter uses more tools like punches, but may not craft as often or have as many supplies as an "Avid" crafter. If you look up "Avid" crafter in the dictionary, you will see my picture (and every other Stampin' Up! demonstrator's!) After all, we have to support our habit, right? We enjoy our Big Shot and embellish with die cuts, embossing, and many other techniques.
The Poinsettia flower is the "Star of the Show" on this card, and you won't believe how I made it! I used 8 cut outs of the large leaf die from the Rooted In Nature bundle and attached them to a 1" circle.
I absolutely love copper, and our Bright Copper Shimmer Paint and Copper Foil give elegant accents. And the Merry Merlot and Copper Reversible Ribbon is so beautiful! Pictures don't do it justice!
Tips and Tricks:
- Card dimensions: Base-5-1/2 x 8-1/2, scored at 4-1/4, Tranquil Tide mat 4-1/8 x 5-1/4, Very Vanilla mat 3-3/4 x 5
- Use a sponge dauber to apply shimmer paint to stamps, embossed die cuts, and also give edging to layers
- The Stamparatus made stamping those leaves with the shimmer paint so easy-just use the negative from the die cut as a template, line up stamp in template, and stamp over and over.
- When putting the "petals" together to make the flower, glue them to a 1" circle, first 4 in a cross shape, then fill in the gaps with the other four.
- Use your bone folder to bend leaves to add dimension, also to curl corners of paper for a "vintage" look.
- The Big Shot Embossing Mat gives a deep impression to "emboss only" dies, like the leaves used here. You can also use them to emboss with dies! They are amazing!
